Sometimes, a category can be located under different places. For example, Astronomy can be located under Science (Science/Astronomy), or under Science/Physics (Science/Physics/Astronomy). After choosing the best location, editors can put @links in other places in order to point to the right location.
For example, even if Astronomy is located under Science/Physics, an @link can be placed under Science, called Astronomy@, that will redirect surfers to the right location.
@links are displayed on public pages just as the rest of the subcategories. They can be recognised by the @ sign which is placed at the end of their name.
Alphabars should be used when other methods of splitting the category failed. In general, if there is another method available for spliting the category, other than an alphabar, it should be used. An alphabar can still be created in this case, but its purpose will be to store @links to different subcategories.
